Bhawana Majhi
Country: Nepal
Advocacy areas: Gender, Disability, Indigeneity
Background:
I am Bhawana Majhi, a young indigenous woman with a physical disability from the highly marginalized Majhi community in Nepal. I am dedicated to advocating for the rights of Indigenous Women and Girls with Disabilities in Nepal. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Dibyabhumi Multiple College, courtesy of a full scholarship. I am also a proud recipient of the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) Fellowship under National Indigenous Disabled Women Association – Nepal (NIDWAN), which has enabled me to acquire valuable experience and skills in advocacy, capacity building, and communication. As a Media Fellow under the Disability Justice Project and an Advocacy Institute (AAI) Cohort II Fellow. As an Advocacy and Communication Officer at NIDWAN I contribute to national-level meetings, workshops, and training sessions, thereby deepening my understanding of human rights, indigenous issues, and disability rights. My involvement has also afforded me the chance to engage with diverse communities, conduct research, and develop my comprehension of disability, gender, and indigenous issues.
Presently, I lead a group of young indigenous women with disabilities under NIDWAN, facilitating their understanding of sexual and reproductive health rights and climate change. I am committed to creating a future where indigenous women and girls with disabilities can access the support they need to thrive. I firmly believe that through collaborative efforts, we can dismantle barriers, challenge stereotypes, and cultivate leadership among young individuals to make a meaningful impact in society. I am dedicated to empowering others to grow, contribute, and create more inclusive spaces in our society.
