Background:
I am Aye Myat Myat Win from Myanmar. I receive my undergraduate degree from Myanmar and Master’s degree from Thailand. After receiving my Master’s degree, I worked in non-government organizations related to gender-based violence projects. Since I worked closely with UNFPA Myanmar, I coordinated with various organizations, including UN agencies, INGOs, NGOs and CSOs and delivered trainings to partner organizational staff. I also provided support services to women who experience gender-based violence and referral services if needed. I have worked and conducted research in diverse sectors of gender and human rights, involving gender equality, women’s empowerment and migrant workers’ rights.

Gender-based violence is a hidden social problem in Myanmar context which has patriarchal culture in general. As such, prevention and elimination of all forms of gender-based violence is key in enhancing gender equality for a better society and thus, research and advocacy plays an undeniable role for social change where my interests lie.
